Sheep Brainstem — Ventrolateral View
Ventrolateral view of a sheep brainstem. The pyramids (orange) emerge form the pons (white) and run along the ventral surface of the myelencephalon, beside the midline. Because they decussate (cross sides), pyramids disappear from the surface at the juncture with the spinal cord. The green pic is stuck in the trapezoid body. The facial (VII) and vestibulocochlear (VIII) cranial nerves are labeled. For another view of pyramids, click here. To see the equine, click here.

The trigeminal nerve (V; red pic) exits through the pons (white). The crus cerebri (blue) is evident on the ventral surface of the midbrain.
