Brain Anatomy Introduction CLOSE
Canine Forebrain Transection
Transverse section through a canine forebrain (white matter is stained blue). The thalamus (T) of each side meet on the midline to form an interthalamic adhesion (asterisk), which obliterates the center of the third ventricle (3). Ventral to the thalamus, the hypothalamus (H) is evident. The optic chiasm (oc) is at the rostral end of the hypothalamus. To view a more caudal section, click here.

The internal capsule (ic) connects the diencephalon to the telencephalon. Some telencephalic structures are labeled: lateral ventricle (lat), corpus callosum (cc), and fornix (for).
