Urogenital Anomalies - Image 8
Supernumerary teat (arrow) on a bovine udder. The mammary glands arise from ectodermal mammary ridges in the embryo so that the nipples (teats) appear in a pair of ventral lines. The number and location of glands is characteristic for each species and extra nipples lie within the linear placement. Extra teats are removed from heifers at an early age because they leak milk and can not be accommodated by milking machines.
