Urogenital Anomalies - Image 10
Pairs of canine cryptorchid testicles from a colony of inbred Miniature Schnauzers (V. Cox, et. al., Teratology, 18:233-240, 1978). Upper row, all unilateral, normal testicles (1) on the left. Testis 2 was observable in a prescrotal position; the other two testicles (3) were hidden in the inguinal canal. Lower row, all bilateral, abdominal cryptorchids, note poorly organized epididymis distant from testis (arrows). Compare with the well organized epididymis (blue asterisk) closely attached to the normal testicles (1) and less so in the inguinal cryptorchids (3). The epididymis (yellow asterisk) is poorly developed in the three lower right testicles.
