The Kentucky study of equine congenital defects found 18 cases of hydrocephalus in 608 foals with defects (AJVR 46:353-358, 1985). Ten of the 18 cases had greatly enlarged skulls. The other 8 foals had nearly normal skulls but hydrocephalus was found when the skull was opened.
