Schistosomus reflexus specimen (Holstein calf). This is a condition in which the ventral body wall fails to close. It is most common in calves but also has been seen in sheep and pigs. Arrows point to the cut ends of the umbilical vessels. The limbs are crooked (arthrogryposis). By intrauterine palpation veterinarians have mistaken fetal viscera for maternal viscera and thus misdiagnosed uterine rupture instead of correctly recognizing schistosomous reflexus.
