Isolated mandibular cheek teeth. 1, premolar 2 = first cheek tooth; 2, premolar 3 = second cheek tooth; 3, premolar 4 = third cheek tooth; 4, molar one (first permanent tooth to erupt after the wolf teeth); 5, molar 2; 6, molar 3; 7, apical end before formation of roots (small roots formed on molar 1); 8, well formed tooth roots; black asterisk, edge of cement layer which is chipped off below here; blue asterisk, gum line marked by brown plant pigment staining of the exposed clinical crown of the tooth. “Below” the gum line is the reserve crown and the root (if present); red asterisk, location of pulp cavity.
