Lab 18 - Image 16
Schematic section of an equine incisor tooth. 1, mandibular bone; 2, pulp cavity; 3, dentin; 4, outer enamel layer; 5, infolded enamel of the infundibulum; 6, lumen of the infundibulum (aka the cup); 7, infundibular cement (TVA); 8, secondary and tertiary dentin (forms dental stars on worn surface of tooth); 9, worn occlusal surface at the level of a cup (5 + 6); 10, occlusal surface at the level of an enamel spot (5 + 6). As the tooth continually erupts and wears down the appearance of the occlusal surface changes. TVA uses the term dentine but equine dentists prefer dentin and cementum.
