Porcine jejunal loops (2) surround a loop containing a lymphoid structure known as a Peyer’s patch (1). 3, mesojejunum. Peyer’s patches are most often found in the ileum and terminal jejunum. They are rich in B lymphocytes and are associated with a specialized mucosal lining (see “The enigma of the lower gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT)” Butler & Sinkora, J Lymphocyte Biol, 94:259-270; 2013).
