Pig stomach specimens. 1, esophagus; 2, fundus; 3, gastric diverticulum; 4, pyloric region; 5, duodenum; 6, cut edge of duodenum; 7, torus pyloricus; 8, pyloric sphincter. Since the sphincter is incomplete, the torus fills the break in the sphincter and also protrudes into the lumen of the pyloric canal. Therefore, 7 and 8 work together to close the pyloric canal.
