Deep Rhinencephalic Structures

The left rhinencepahlon and the right half of the brain are shown. From inside the piriform lobe, hippocampus arcs dorsally and rostrally. Nerve fibers emerge laterally from gray matter of the hippocampus (forming a fimbria). Then the fibers course rostrally forming the fornix, which terminates in the septal region and the mamillary bodies. (Notice that fibers of the intermediate olfactory stria run through the rostral commissure.)
