Different Views of Basal Nuclei

On the left, the caudate nucleus and globus pallidus (labeled pallidum & endopeduncular) are shown from a lateral view and in transverse section. Notice the big head and long tail of the caudate nucleus.

On the right, the putamen and other basal nuclei have been added to the lateral view. Because of their shapes, basal nuclei present different profiles at different levels of transection.
