The SE abducent nucleus is located dorsomedially in the medulla oblongata at the level of the trapezoid body. Abducent nerve fibers course ventrally and exit the brain just lateral to the pyramid. Facial nerve fibers form a genu (bend) just dorsal to the abducent nucleus. The abducent nucleus is shown below at two levels of magnification.
