Solitary Tract and Nucleus of the Solitary Tract

The solitary tract and the nucleus of the solitary tract are shown at two levels of medulla oblongata. Taste (SVA) fibers from cranial nerves VII, IX, and X go the the rostral end of the tract and nucleus. Further caudally, GVA axons from cranial nerves IX and X convey sensation from the pharynx, larynx, and esophagus (also, middle ear and carotid body and sinus, IX). Click for an enlarged view.
