Midbrain (Dorsal View)

The midbrain is outlined in red in this dorsal view of the brainstem. The roof of the midbrain is referred to as the tectum. The tectum consists of rostral (6) and caudal (8) colliculi. The trochlear nerve (IV) emerges from the dorsal surface of the midbrain. The nerve decussates in the roof of the fourth ventricle.
