Lateral Recesses and Foramina of the Fourth Ventricle

The fourth ventricle (IV) is visible in this transverse section through the medulla oblongata. The thin roof of the fourth ventricle gives rise to bilateral choroid plexuses (cp). On the left, the choroid plexus extends into a lateral recess which opens as a lateral foramen.
