Canine Hindbrain Transection
Transection through the cerebellum and medulla oblongata of a dog brain. The myelencephalon features bilateral pyramids (p) along the ventral midline. The trapezoid body (tr) is found in the rostral 25% of the medulla oblongata. It receives axons from cochlear nuclei (asterisk) and sends axons to the dorsal nucleus of th trapezoid body (d). The emergence of cranial nerves VI, VII, and VIII is labeled. Arrows indicate facial nerve fibers within the brainstem. The fibers come from a motor nucleus of the facial nucleus located in a more caudal section.
