Spinal Cord Anatomy CLOSE
Spinal White Matter Funiculi
Transverse section through a thoracic segment of a canine spinal cord. White matter is superficial and stained white. Bilaterally, spinal white matter is divided into a dorsal funiculus (DF), a lateral funiculus (LF), and a ventral funiculus (VF). The boundary between dorsal and lateral funiculi is the dorsolateral sulcus, where dorsal rootlets enter (DR). The boundary between lateral and ventral funiculi is less distinct. It is approximately at the most lateral ventral root fiber (VR). Right and left sides are separated by septal and fissure barriers except at one site, the ventral white commissure, located between the top of the ventral median sulcus and the gray matter ventral to the central canal (asterisk).
