Spinal Cord Anatomy CLOSE
T6 Spinal Cord Segment
In this transverse section through the T6 segment of a canine spinal cord, observe the following characteristics: Bilateral dorsolateral sulci are prominent. The ventral median fissure and dorsal median sulcus and septum are evident. Identify the central canal and surrounding gray matter (brown). Gray matter dorsal horns look like stumps. The lateral bulge (lateral horn) in the gray matter is produced by preganglionic sympathetic neurons (intermediolateral nucleus). White matter (blue) is more abundant than gray matter. The overall shape of the segment is round. Spinal rootlets (dark blue profiles) are present. Pia mater, including denticulate ligament, and dura mater are distinct; arachnoid is evident dorsally.
