Ostrich Pelvis
In order to allow space for egg passage, the pelvis is open ventrally in most birds. However, in the ostrich, the pubic bones are fused on the ventral midline but the ring of pelvic bones is large enough to allow for egg passage. Mammals have a ring of pelvic bones that form the entrance to the birth canal.
