Designed for smart phones, this web app is intended to aid veterinary students striving to recognize major gaits exhibited by running (cursorial) quadrupeds. The ability to recognize gait strides and anticipate foot-falls in a moving animal is crucial for diagnosing gait abnormalities.
In this web app, quadruped locomotion is illustrated by canine cartoons. They are intended to demonstrate limb sequences (not trunk mechanics). The web app presents normal motion, slow motion, and step animations. (Step images can be changed by tapping forward or backward buttons or the image itself.)
Note: This web app illustrates the foot-fall patterns of typical quadruped gaits. Gait transitions and atypical gait variations present in animal locomotion are not included.
