Brain Regions
Locations of some of the brain regions involved in micturition and continence:
Top: Cartoon of a mid-sagittal section through a dog brain. The medial frontal cortex voluntarily controls micturition and continence. Via midbrain periaqueductal gray matter, it relays instructions to the pons.
Bottom: Transverse section through a canine pons. Pontine micturition and continence centers give rise to tracts that descend to lumbar and sacral regions of the spinal cord.
