Canine Bladder Sagittal Section
A sagittal section through a distended urinary bladder of a dog is shown. The bladder apex is to the right. The apex is less distended than are the bladder body and neck which exhibit a thinner wall. To the left, a ureter profile is evident in the bladder wall. Intravesical pressure and wall tension seal the intramural ureter to preclude urine reflux from the bladder into the ureter. Circular smooth muscle of the bladder neck is evident to the left of the ureter. The prostate is partially sectioned at the extreme left.
