Canine Brain Section
Specimen image
In this transverse section through a canine brain, the cerebellum is attached by cerebellar peduncles to the rostral end of the medulla oblongata. The median vermis is flanked bilaterally by cerebellar hemispheres. The ventral part of each hemisphere is the flocculus. The nodulus, the most caudal lobule of the vermis, is visible dorsal to the roof of the fourth ventricle. Cerebellar cortex has a two-tone stained appearance. White matter is stained blue. Embedded deep in the white matter, three cerebellar nuclei are present bilateally. From medial to lateral, the nuclei are: fastigeal, interpositus, and dentate.
