Equine Brainstem Lateral View
An equine brainstem is shown in lateral view. Pyramids, the trapezoid body, and cranial nerves VI, VII, and VIII are evident in the myelencephalon. The trigeminal nerve exits at the level of the pons. In the midbrain the crus cerebri and rostral colliculus (orange pic) are evident. The diencephalon features: the optic chiasm (red), optic tract (blue), brachium of the rostral colliculus (white), and lateral geniculate body (green).
