The facial nerve (1) loops around the external auditory canal and gives off branches to muscles of facial expression. Notice: cervical branch (2), ventral buccal n. (3), dorsal buccal n. (4), auriculopalpebral n. (5) which divides into rostral auricular (6) and palpebral branches (7).
The auriculotemporal n. (8) of the mandibular division of the trigeminal n. is sensory to the temple region.
