Superficial veins of the head: The external jugular v. (1) is formed by anastomosis (union) of maxillary (2) and linguofacial (3) veins immediately caudal to the mandibular salivary gland. Caudal auricular (4) and superficial temporal (5) veins drain into the maxillary vein. The linguofacial v. is formed by anastomosis of lingual (6) and facial (7) veins. Inferior labial (8) and superior labial (9) veins drain into the facial vein.
