The right atrium of the heart has been opened. The following veins convey blood into the right atrium: caudal vena cava (1), cranial vena cava (2), azygos v. (3), and coronary sinus (4) which carries blood from the great cardiac vein. An intervenous tubercle (5) directs incoming blood ventrally. The right atrioventricuar opening (6) and the lumen of the right auricle (7) can be seen. The fat-filled coronary groove (8) marks the boundary between the atrium and the right ventricle (9). The ventricle is covered by visceral pericardium (epicardium). Parietal pericardium and fibrous pericardium are reflected (10).
