Reflect skin to the dorsal midline (1). Leave the skin attached dorsally so it can be used to cover the dissected cadaver and help protect it from desiccation. Superficial fascia (2) occupies the subcutaneous space between skin and more deeply positioned muscle, bone, and deep fascia. Superficial fascia contains cutaneus trunci m. (3), mammary tissue (4), and variable amounts of fat. In this specimen, cutaneus trunci m. has been separated from skin and left on the cadaver. Since cutaneus trunci m. is closely attached to skin it is easier for you to remove it with the skin (unlike this specimen).
