Pterygoplatine Ganglion Drawing
Drawing of a pterygopalatine ganglion from Miller's Anatomy of the Dog textbook. The pterygopalatine ganglion is located beside the maxillary nerve on the dorsal surface of the medial pterygoid muscle. The ganglion receives parasympathetic preganglionic input from the nerve of the pterygoid canal (a branch of the facial nerve). The ganglion sends postganglionic branches to the orbit to innervate the lacrimal gland and branches to the maxillary nerve to innervate nasal glands.
